PARKSTAD LIMBURG URBAN PLANNING WORKSHOP
Heerlen Netherlands
In the study, which is coordinated by Martin van den Borst, Technische Universiteit (Eindhoven), Academie van Bouwkunst (Maastricht), Academie voor Stedenbouw (Breda), Hogeschool Zuyd (Heerlen), Wageningen Universiteit, Academie voor Stedenbouw en Architectuur (Tilburg) from Netherlands, Universitat Siegen, FH Aachen and RWTH Aachen from Germany, Provinciale Hogeschool (Diepenbeek) from Belgium and Yildiz Technical University from Turkey have attended with 60 students in total. Parkstad Limburg is located partially within the borders of Belgium, Germany and Netherlands, but its identity and future has become an issue of discussion after the establishment of European Union and with the diminishing importance of the boundaries. The efforts of keeping the area within “Euregio” zone has become an international issue.
In the workshop the area has been analyzed from 1/25,000 scale concept decisions to 1/200 scale details. The local press and municipality have attended the presentations of both studies, organized in the last day of the study conducted with the groups.
